Intrepid College Prep is a network of free, public charter schools located in the Antioch area of Greater Nashville. We educate scholars at two campuses: Opportunity Academy Middle School and Independence Academy High School.
Our 5-12 model ensures that scholars have the opportunity to engage in a rigorous, college-preparatory education for eight years prior to their transition to college and the professional opportunities that follow. We are an open-enrollment school, which means that our students do not have to take an entrance test or pay tuition to enroll.
Intrepid College Prep is committed to ensuring our scholars, educators, and families have the opportunity to unlock an unlimited future. By providing rigorous academic instruction and creating powerful relationships amongst our community’s members, we ignite passion, seek knowledge, and inspire the bravery needed to have a profound impact in our world.
Within our seamless 5-12 model, Opportunity Academy students become Independence Academy students on a path to excellence in higher education and the professional world.
Intrepid College Prep emphasizes literacy in the classroom and strives to help all scholars develop a lifelong love of reading. In our middle school model we have double literacy and math instruction to ensure our students grow more and faster. At the high school level we offer multiple AP courses and a variety of elective pathways for students to have a diverse set of academic experiences.
Our small school environment provides the platform for high levels of learning, student achievement, and efficiency. We have high expectations for our students, which leads to a safe, joyful, and focused classroom setting.
Our curriculum has a focus on college preparation, rigorous academics, and ethics, which are all essential for success in higher education and the professional world beyond.
We believe that our parents must be informed and a partner In their student's academic success. We have an open-door policy at our schools and want our parents to be involved.
The majority of students in Antioch-area public schools are low-income students, students of color, and English Language Learners – all of whom only have a one-in-ten chance of completing a four-year college degree. Moved by these statistics, as well as a history of low literacy and math achievement rates, founder Mia Howard launched Intrepid College Prep in 2012 and welcomed its inaugural class in 2013.
Intrepid College Prep was established to help change realities for the students in Greater Nashville, and to provide a college preparatory choice for parents and families. With a deeply committed team of experienced educators, we are motivated to close both the academic achievement and wealth gaps in Nashville.
Opportunity Academy was named a Tennessee Reward School in 2015 and 2018 for student achievement and growth.
Independence Academy ranked first among open enrollment high schools based on 2018 TNReady performance.
Our students consistently outperform Metro Nashville Public Schools on the state TN Ready test.
Our English Language Learners are outperforming MNPS and the State of TN in meeting growth standards on WIDA ACCESS. How does this compare?
